We're Having Fun at Our Summer Reading Program!

Becky, an intern from the University of Pittsburgh, is helping children’s librarian Mrs. Ann Zettl, with the Summer Reading Program.  As Miss Frizzle, the lovable and wacky teacher from “The Magic School Bus,” Becky delighted the children with exciting games and activities from the story.

Teach.com posted a Summer Reading Flowchart to help in the difficult decision of what to read during the vacation months.  The chart includes selections varying from classic lit to Young Adult to sci-fi to graphic novel.  Follow this chart and find the perfect book (and then grab a physical copy at the library or the e-book the Overdrive page, of course)!

As part of our services to the Jefferson Hills community, the Jefferson Hill Library endeavors to offer interesting, informative and vital programming. In the past year we have welcomed book clubs, a variety of computer classes, crafts and floral arranging,  jewelry making, health and fitness, exercise, bridge lessons, and most recently a presentation from the Jefferson Hills Area Ambulance Association on practical techniques to aid residents while waiting for the ambulance after calling 911.


We would like to hear from you, and are asking for your opinions and suggestions on subjects of future classes and programs for adults.  Send an e-mail to Jane Milner, Program Coordinator, at milnerj@einetwork.net or call 412-973-7262.  Tell us the days of the week and times that are most convenient for you to attend our programs.

At a recent seminar, Chief Doug Pascoe and Assistant Chief Michael Horgos demonstrated chest compression techniques to revive victims who are not breathing. Assistant Chief Robert Gibson also demonstrated techniques to aid choking, accident, stroke, and wound victims, The team also gave suggestions for aiding them in accessing your home and medications, particularly for elderly family members and residents who live alone.  "All of the information given was pertinent and important," remarked a resident who attended the program."

Children Enjoy Varied Theme Programs at Library!

Children's programming is always a lot of fun at Jefferson Hills Library with great themes, crafts, stories and snacks!  May 16 was "Happy Birthday" day and all of the children celebrated their birthday.

Friends of Library Host Another Successful Book Sale

This spring, the Friends of Jefferson Hills Library hosted its annual used book sale. Bargain hunters took advantage of the opportunity to buy over 30,000 books and magazines at great prices. This year a very popular feature of the weekend was a boutique that offered jewelry, belts, purses, scarves and photo frames.

The weekend sale began with a preview party the evening before the general sale that served wonderful appetizers and desserts in addition to offering first choice of books and boutique items for the cost of only $6.00.

The fundraiser raises money for materials for the Library, especially many of the newly released books that patrons see every week.  Thanks to everyone who worked to make this event a success!
